About
Harry Furukawa is a coach, consultant, and organization architect, who helps organizations multiply results and make the world a better place.
After earning his graduate degree in architecture, Harry helped start, scale, and sell a design-build firm. He then transitioned from designing buildings to designing organizations. Having honed competencies in visioning, customer focus, human-centered design, systems thinking, and innovation in architectural design, he applied those competencies into quality and strategic management consulting. With that grounding, he proceeded to take leadership positions inside organizations to help them focus, align, and accelerate growth. Seeing the importance of developing great people and culture in organizational performance, he leaned on his psychology background to further a passion for helping people learn and grow. Harry brings a unique background in people, strategy, and implementation to his coaching and consulting.
Professional Highlights
After consulting in the quality and strategic management arena, he led the corporate strategy function at the American Red Cross, where he developed the first set of core values and planning process which integrated budgeting and planning. He held a dual role as the chief learning officer and lead for performance excellence at Goodwill Industries International, where he turned around a learning function that was under severe criticism to one in which both the Senior Leader and Manager cohorts rated the experience “top box” across the board in the first year of the revamped design. He served as the chief learning officer at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) where he revamped the leadership development program and demonstrated its value, saving the program in the face of deep cuts in government budgets. As a consultant and coach, he has worked with many organizations in both the private and non-profit sectors, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small/mid-size firms and with non-profits/NGOs domestically and internationally.
Harry earned a B.A. (Psychology) from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, and a MBA from Loyola University in Maryland (Beta Sigma Honor Society).
